Of all the decisions...

“Of all the decisions, this one [choosing a spouse] must NOT be wrong!” – President Kimball. This quote puts a lot of pressure on us to choose the right spouse. I think this pressure is good pressure though. If we are extremely careful in choosing our spouse, and if we counsel with God, I know that we will have eternal happiness with our spouse. If we pray, fast, and go to the temple about who to choose to be our spouse, I know Heavenly Father will give us the right answer and we will be able to make the right choice in choosing our spouse.

I really enjoyed our last week of class. I am really grateful for everything I have learned this semester. This week, one of the things we talked about was the purposes of parenting. Obviously, parenting affects both the child and the parent. In class, we discussed a few things that both child and parent can learn from parenting. What parents can learn from parenting is, they learn to understand God. Heavenly Father has unconditional love for each and every one of His children, and parents learn to have unconditional love for their children too. Parents become selfless while parenting. Parenting takes endless amounts of sacrifice, therefore you learn to become selfless pretty quickly. Going along with this, parents learn how to serve also. They are always sacrificing and serving their kids. Both parent and child develop the capacity to love. They both love each other so deeply and they both rely on each other so much they learn to love endlessly.

This week I really enjoyed class. I really liked when we were talking about anger and what not, the teacher reminded us of the saying from Thumper in Bambie, " If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything nice at all." I love that saying. My mom said that a lot when I was younger and it has always stuck in my head. Another thing I really enjoyed was when the teacher told us the story about when his son spoke to his mom unkindly and the teacher said "How would you like it if I talked to your girlfriend like that?" The son came back with "I wouldn't enjoy it. That's rude!" The teacher, trying to teach a lesson, came back with "Well you just talked to 'my girlfriend' that way." I thought that was a great lesson for the son. I really liked that and will have to remember that when I have a family of my own. I really enjoyed this weeks classes and lessons.

class thoughts: week 1!

So this blog is mainly for my family relations class. Insights and thoughts and everything else from that class. So here we go! This week we talked about things like trends seen in families with one parent verses families with two parents. I thought it was interesting because in class, we talked about how children coming from a family with 2 parents get an average of 8/10 on a test, but children with only 1 parent get an average of 6/10 on a test. I have never really thought of the fact that having two parents can affect things like your school work. We also talked about divorce and the effects that has on kids too. People whose parents are divorced are more likely to be divorced also. They also are more likely to have premarital sex and they are more likely to get married at a later age. The effects divorce has on a child is more serious than I ever realized. So that is what I learned about in class this week. I look forward to this coming week and learning more about families (my favorite subject)!!

A step into my world...

Hi, I'm Allison McClellan. I am just a city girl livin in a small town world. I'm just your average Texas girl, with lots of Texas pride. Not only are my sisters my best friends but my world. I would do anything for them. I am a Mormon. I know it, I live it, I love it. In high school I was a manager for the drill team. Even though I made so many great memories in high school, I am making even better ones in college. I am currently a student at Brigham Young University- Idaho. Lets just say there is a big difference between Idaho and Texas. Every time it goes below 50 degrees I just want my humid Texas heat back. I enjoy shopping, sleeping and watching Hannah Montana with my family. Someday when I die, I want everyone to wear pink at my funeral. Clearly pink is my favorite color. My favorite music is country! I love a good granola bar and where ever I go you will see me with a water bottle in hand. Anywho, now that you know my life story, continue to read along about how I love to live my life by walking on sunshine.
Love,
